Day 1 (Thursday): What Does It Mean to Give Thanks?

Reading plan part 3 for Day 1 (Thursday):

Isaiah 38:17-19; Hebrews 13:15

Give Thanks to the Lord!

Isaiah 38:17-19

Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back. v.18 For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness. v.19 The living, the living—they praise you, as I am doing today; parents tell their children about your faithfulness.

If we look at the beginning of chapter 38 we read that Hezekiah had been sick for a long time and was near death. God had sent Isaiah to him to let him know that he needed to get his house in order because he would be dying soon. When he heard that he turned away and prayed and wept before the Lord. God heard his prayer and tears and told Isaiah to tell him that He heard him and would extend his life instead of taking it away for a while longer. Then we read that Hezekiah was thankful for the Lord saving him from the pit of destruction.

These verses are about gratitude to the Lord. Gratitude is a burning fire that is sparked from the cross of Calvary. We need to use that fire to motivate us to reach the lost while there is still time.

Hebrews 13:15-16

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. v.6 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

We need to continually praise and thank God for everything that he has done for us and for who He is. But do not forget to share with others by telling them about God. Testimonies can be a powerful witness to helping reach the lost, because people can relate to personal circumstances more so than just reading about it.

Thanks for joining! I can't wait to see what these passages say to you.

God Bless!
